Contents

Positive psychology focuses on human resources and competence and focuses on scientifically studying the factors that contribute to positive emotions and behavior as well as human ability for happiness, health and quality of life.

Positive psychology, defined by the Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive.

It is founded on the belief that people want to live meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play.

Research has shown happier people enjoy better health, live longer, have closer friendships, are more creative and productive, and achieve greater success in general.

Historical subject facts

Positive psychology has its roots in humanistic psychology and focuses on happiness and self-realization. Martin Seligman introduced the concept and is considered the father of the modern positive psychology movement.
Thought processes that affect our emotional states vary greatly from person to person. The ability to handle negative inner dialogue can provide strong positive gains for life mastery. Seligman has identified goals for positive psychology: families and schools that allow children to grow, workplaces that aim for satisfaction and high productivity, and that teach others about positive psychology.

Positive psychology is concerned with three factors:
– positive emotions – to be happy with their past, to love the present and have hope for the future
– positive individual traits – to focus on one’s strengths and virtues.
– positive institutions – strengthening conditions that improve the community
